Happy Horse Year!

Sooo… this has been quite a busy week so far and it’s only Friday. Last weekend left no room for sleeping in because, ho ho ho, I’ve been doing some *notsosecretbutquiteunderwraps* things with my box. I’m almost afraid to say it because I’m scared to mess up my juju. I also had the first training session for the upcoming Valentine’s Day Massacre partner competition with my partner, Brice a.k.a Vegas a.k.a Roy Batty a.k.a The Mean Machine. He’s not actually mean at all, he’s quite a sweetheart actually. And he’s not bad to look at (sorry, Sara). So the game plan is to use this to our full advantage. 3…2…1… STUN. Good thing it’s a co-ed competition, eh? The only problem is that he’s such an amazing athlete, I’m always bogged down with insecurities that I’m not as fit, fast or strong enough. I hope this just serves as good motivation and not drive me AND him totally bat shit crazy. Ahh… girl issues.

I’ve been feeling kind of hungry lately. I don’t really know why I said ‘lately’: let’s face it, folks. This girl ain’t foolin’ no one. I want to say it’s because I’ve been doing more WODs than usual, but I also want to say it’s because my lady storm hasn’t quite come yet. No wonder I’ve been catty. So I decided to make some Thai green curry to feed the inner fatty feast beast in me:

IMG_9737I would totally post the recipe, except I followed none and just “wunged” it. (Wing-ed it? Wanged it?) It was pretty darn delicious, seeing as I had none of the authentic spices and chilies required to make a legit one. And it was Paleo. Woah. I’ll figure it out and post it in the future, so look out for it!

On the plus plus side, a fellow traveller I met in Italy came to visit me yesterday and we had SUUUUCH a fun time. Have you ever met those people that you just instantly click with? Audrey is one of those people. We spent all day in Venice being all hipster and getting some much-appreciated compliments from homeless hobos, high on marijuana and the salty ocean breeze. I even got a double-syllable “damn” (pronounced as “da-yammm”) from one guy who commented on my booty. Score 1 for Crossfit! :) I also took her to this cool restaurant called Gjelina, which makes me want to move to Venice, like, immediately. And of course, I took her to our box to try a quick WOD I programmed, which she loved. Fast forward to two hungry girls making vegetarian Mexican tacos:

YUM.

I tried to be as authentically Mexican as I could, making sure to ask the guy at the grocer’s what kind of chili pepper to buy, chili powder, etc. Albeit, he was from Honduras, but he was nice enough to help! We made some damn good mango salsa and guacamole. And those eggplant chips. Double deliciousness. On the down side, it turns out I can’t handle jalapeño peppers. I ate a teeny tiny sliver of the tip (which I now know is the hottest part) and my face just about blew up. My lips erupted and looked about as full as Angelina Jolie’s. Except not as attractive because I was also tearing up and chugging down almond milk and cucumbers to stop the burn. Maybe they should put jalapeño extract in lip balm for date nights.

REALLY GOOD MANGO SALSA

Ingredients:-

1 ripe mango, peeled and diced

1/3 cucumber, peeled and diced

1/4 fresh green jalapeño pepper, chopped finely (or you can substitute with red chili flakes)

2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

1 fistful of fresh cilantro, chopped finely

Salt and Pepper to taste

Method of Madness:-

  1. Add the diced mango and cucumber together in a bowl.
  2. Add the cilantro and squirt lime juice.
  3. TEST the jalapeño pepper first. You don’t have to be a man about it and take a whopping bite. Add as much or as little as you like.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Oh yeah. Happy Chinese New Year!
